Press release for A Night of Nearly, June 30th

A NIGHT OF NEARLY & TRANSMEDIA FICTION

On Monday 30th June at 9.00pm writer Chris Meade presents an hour long show at the Earl Haig Centre in Crouch End, North London.  A Night of Nearly features readings fromWhat Didn’t Quite, a transmedia novel in progress with songs composed by a character from the story.

Digital author Chris Meade is writing fiction about how we live with the things we nearly do, composing the story in a transmedia way, so posting it on line, printing it in newspapers, running workshops and events where he reads from the work in progress, performs songs – and calls on the audience to tell him their stories of things they’ve nearly done.

“In the age of social networks, it seems unnatural to work privately on a book for years –  instead I want to show it and test it as I go along, include other people’s stories and ideas, put songs, interaction and artwork into this transmedia ‘book’ well as text.” says Chris who is studying for a PhD in Digital Writing at Bath Spa University. Meade has been Director the Poetry Society, Booktrust, and if:book UK, a think and do tank exploring the future of the book. He is the author of comedy, poetry, articles, plays, a Penguin book, a sitcom which was nearlyproduced by the BBC, and in 2009 a digital novel, www.insearchoflosttim.net, which the Independent on Sunday described as “a jeu d’esprit and just possibly the future of fiction”.

Night of Nearly involves readings by and about Freya Seward, a protagonist in What Didn’t Quite, plus the IFSO Band playing songs written by her husband Jamie. Nearlywriter Chris performs rituals devised by the Nearlyologist Mister Carraday, an outsider artist who once almost moved to Australia and now inhabits his own aboriginal outback in North London. IFSO are gathering nearly stories from Crouch Enders and will be inviting audience members to talk about their nearlies on the night.

Nearlydust will be produced and dispersed into the nearlysphere.
